A Comparison between Ultrasonic Guided Wave Leakage and Half-Cell Potential Methods in Detection of Corrosion in Reinforced Concrete Decks

This article presents the advantages and limitations of a recently developed Ultrasonic Guided Wave Leakage (UGWL) method in comparison to well-known Half-Cell Potential (HCP) their ability detect corrosion reinforced concrete (RC) bridge decks. research also establishes correlation between UGWL data chloride content RC slabs. Concrete slabs submerged 10% NaCl solution were monitored using both methods over period six months. The from three cores (0.84, 0.55, 0.18%) extracted slab after 6-month long process all exceeded threshold values suggested ACI 318, which is 0.05 0.1% by weight concrete. Further, detected changes due approximately 21 days earlier than HCP method.
